Review of The Ides of March (2011) by Dave M — 25 Apr 2012
Overall enjoyable and clever, but falls flat for its poorly timed pacing and overall lack of dedicated believability. This is not to say these events couldn't happen, but the film doesn't put for the effort to make you believe that they could.
The description of 'actors showpiece' is an accurate one here, as the settings are sparse and boring and cinematography non-existent, and essentially the entire film can be summed up with the line, "the world of politics is mean and dirty".
It's well done, just doesn't do anything new or unique. A fine watch for fans of political drama, and an easy skip for everyone else.
