Review of The Ides of March (2011) by Ryan O — 30 Apr 2012
Politics is a dirty profession. Gasp! After watching The Ides of March, I couldn't help but ask, why would anyone ever want to get into politics as a career?
This an outstanding political drama that manages to avoid the boring aspects of politics and instead delivers a pulse pounding, thrilling examination of what may go on behind the scenes of a major presidential election campaign. It's a brutal and exhausting game of rival vs. rival.
The performances are equally as compelling with George Clooney as presidential candidate. His presidential speeches and debates are highly engaging. If Clooney ever decided to choose a career in politics, I think he would succeed.
Ryan Gosling continues his trend of choosing roles that are always different. In this film he steals the show as the press secretary embroiled in a political scandal.
With twists and turns, The Ides of March manages to keep the tension at high gear.
This is a great, great film. Check it out.
