Review of The Ides of March (2011) by Ana B — 17 Sep 2012
Movie about the insides of the political world through the eyes of one of the professionals working in an election campaign. Stephen is a young and talented press secretary that makes the mistake of meeting with the opponentâ(TM)s campaign manager. Because of that he gets into trouble with his own boss and at the same time, accidentally he learns that his candidate has a weakness that could ruin his whole career. Suddenly Stephen finds himself juggling too many balls, can he keep his job, his mentor, his troubled lover and his principles without damaging his candidateâ(TM)s prospects? Which ball is he going to drop?
This is a clever film with a good story and a very famous cast but there isnâ(TM)t much action in the physical sense; this is in fact very âpoliticalâ? so expect lots of talking, corruption, backstabbing and blackmail: in many ways this is almost a psychological thriller. It is a good quality Hollywood product without the obvious stereotypes. The only thing that doesnâ(TM)t make sense to me is Mollyâ(TM)s reaction to the situation at the end but otherwise the other characters are solid and believable.
