Review of The Identical (2014) by Jason B — 08 Sep 2014
The Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, The Graduate, Star Wars, Psycho, Blade Runner, Night at the Museum, Gone With The Wind.
What do all of those films have in common? They originally were not well received by critics. Am I saying this film is on the road to becoming an classic in the eyes of most moviegoers? No, but it's a good film and the critics just didn't like it.
Honestly, I frequently will ignore the reviews provided by professional critics. I think it's in their nature to be over critical and look for problems with a film. Instead, I look at the film itself and the story and make a decision based on that.
For "The Identical", I saw it as a movie that was entertaining and enjoyable and something I could watch with my entire family (including my kids aged 12 and 14). This was a quality family film with good production value, a very enjoyable soundtrack and with a variety of actors that I've enjoyed seeing in other films as well. The story line was interesting to me as well from the standpoint of the pressures of being in the ministry when you don't feel that's what you've been called to be. (My family has 4 generations of pastors and both of my brothers were pastors).
My recommendation is that if you're looking for a family friendly film with a faith-friendly storyline, then give this one a look. If you're tired of some of the movies that are produced by the Hollywood mainstream and want to see more movies like this, "Mom's Night Out", "When the Game Stands Tall", "Blind Side", "Heaven Is For Real" and others, then we need to support more of these films when they come out.
