Review of The Iceman (2012) by Steve W — 23 May 2013
Although Michael Shannon is fierce and can do no wrong, the script ultimately fails him. It paints out Richard Kuklinski to be some sort of anti-hero instead of a mob contract serial killer, and in the end the narrative is split.
This may be due to the fact that it had to follow real life events and the movie couldn't stray to be more interesting. Winona Ryder is amazing, and so are all the smaller roles. You get a little bit of Ray Liotta, Chris Evans is amazing, and even a small cameo here and there.
Ultimately, The Iceman tries to humanize a monster, (like Charlize Theron in Monster) but it comes off a little artificial. Perhaps with a tighter script it could have been more engaging.
