Review of The Iceman (2012) by Tim C — 10 Sep 2012
Michael Shannon is such an acting force, even when he only occasionally outbursts with emotion in The Iceman. A very stoic and eerie role played greatly by Shannon, definitely overshadows every other performance. I would have loved to have seen more from the other actors, as the minor roles are quite small. David Schwimmer was random but fitting, Chris Evans was great but under utilized, Ray Liotta is well, Ray Liotta. James Franco has the ultimate random appearance, but makes sense according to the director during the festival Q and A. The other main performance lead by Winona Ryder is effective, but not really strong enough for much praise.
A great, simple structured crime film, that I would have loved to have seen explored into even more depth beyond Kuklinski. The potential of moving beyond the main character, would have truly made the film a crime epic.
