Review of The Iceman (2012) by Lee B — 23 Aug 2013
The Iceman co-produced co-written and directed by Ariel Vromen. Starring Michael Shannon in title-role playing real Polish family-guy and contract-killer Richard Kuklinski, he worked for mafia families in New Jersey others names in the lead include Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, Winona Ryder, and James Franco (in cameo role). The film was shown at the Venice Film Festival - it was screened at Telluride Film Festival as well as Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was released on May 3, 2012. It was made over the budget of $10 million, earning domestically around $1,930,282.
Set from early 1960s through 1983 - Michael Shannon plays 6.5'inch tall hulky Polish Richard Kuklinski a family man who performs contract killing without letting his family get wind of it- he has a beautiful wife and two grown up teen daughters whom he love more than anything else in the world - a slight disrespect toward his family could cost you, your life - having been raise and abused by his father and mother, he could not stand to kill kids, teens or women nor raise voice in front of them. Richard does not hesitate for once; he could let you pray to God for a while, if the God could help save you from changing his intention. Ray Liotta plays boss Ray DeMeo to Richard - Chris Evans plays sidekick to Richard - James Franco as double-crosser - Winona Ryder as Deborah wife of Richard.
Filled with riveting performance from Michael Shannon and others The Iceman should slowly mark its impression on crime genre (if ever so-called blind audience could determine the true sense of performance by Michael Shannon). Movie beholds strong photography and makeup; solid dialogues as well as sustainable pace. Barely, you would receive this great gems.
NOTE: Richard was called 'Iceman' because of his tactic of freezing bodies for days.
