Review of The Iceman (2012) by Kevin W — 05 Sep 2013
Michael Shannon is a wonderful actor and does a great job in this film, it's the script and/or direction that holds it back. I think readers of the source material will enjoy this more, because more than a few times I ended up asking my brother (a big fan of the book) "who is that?" or "why are they doing that?" Newcomers to the story aren't given much background or explanation to quite a few things.
Something else that bugged me a little is having heard about some things that go on in the book and getting the feeling this movie was tamed. I can handle a brutal scene if it helps convey how dark this guy's soul was.
I called the ending 30 minutes before the end too, so theres that. I will close on a positive note going back to the acting. All the actors were great. Wynona Rider, Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, even David Schwimmer were outstanding.
