Review of The Iceman (2012) by Taha S — 09 Jun 2014
Good crime biopic.
The true story of Richard Kuklinski, the contract killer allegedly responsible for the deaths of over 100 people. Quite gritty and atmospheric, with a great build-up of tension as forces start to close in on him.
More than just showing Kuklinski the killer, it shows Kuklinski the family man, how this overlaps with his work, and how he tries to prevent the two areas from intersecting.
Great performance by Michael Shannon in the lead role. He seemed perfect for the role, and sort of reprises his role in Boardwalk Empire. That performance way well have gotten him this role.
Always good to see Winona Ryder in a movie and she doesn't disappoint here, playing the innocent doting wife well.
Good support from Ray Liotta, Chris Evans and Robert Davi. Cast also includes David Schwimmer who is surprisingly decent as a gangster - the last type of role I would imagine him in. James Franco has a very minor, and brief, role.
