It's 1973, and two families come together in more ways than they could imagine over the space of a few days, ending up in the ice storm. The story is brilliant in every sense, with each character having their own little part, which slowly unfolds, intertwines with other characters but you never lose focus.

Because of the amount of characters, when they cut back to someone else you are drawn in even more, seeing how they all link together. The acting is brilliant, and it's great to see Elijah Wood and Tobey Maguire in early roles rather then their blockbuster hits.

The directing is superb, and the script is extremely well written, with dark humour subtlety used throughout, especially with the younger characters. The characters develop well also, ending the film beautifully in a dramatic last few minutes.
