Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Tom E — 06 Sep 2007
I saw this late one night on the TV. I didn't know what it was, thought it looked slightly pretentious and was preparing myself to be disappointed. I wasn't. It's an amazingly acted Human drama that left my jaw hanging open hoping that someone would find the honesty to say a sentence to a member of their family that wasn't dripping in so much sub-text that it hurts.
It takes your breath away. Joan Allen is just so beautiful throughout the film for her open vulnerability but equally as skilled is Sigourney Weaver who with the same levels of internal chaos portrays a person so cold you can't help but feel the same sympathy as to that of Joan Allen's character.
Everyone in this film suffers from their own crippling loneliness. It's just so magnificent that we are able to view how different characters and therefore people deal with their suffering with the use of a laser sharp direction from Ang Lee.
Honestly watch it... Just don't watch it with anyone going through a divorce...
