Review of The Ice Harvest (2005) by Waiyde P — 12 Aug 2008
Involving, if a bit teasing bit of dark comedy. Plenty of drinking, plenty of laughs in curious places, plenty of all-around fucked up life stories. I found it almost endlessly quoteable, tons of great lines abound.
What most frustrated me is the lack of depth the film intentionally had, until the very end, anyway. It certainly could have gone farther than it did. Cusack was great, surprise surprise, although his everpresent seeming naivete was a bit out of place this time around. Thornton was similary good, an excellent support character with a suppressed psychotic nature suddenly let free. I feel for the poor cop, though.
The promo and the blurb certainly do nothing to actually prepare you for the type of tale it is. So, kudos to the marketing team, I guess.
Definitely worth a watch.
