Review of The Ice Harvest (2005) by Paul P — 29 Dec 2008
A perfectly watchable thriller with a great cast breathing life into the proceedings. The fact that this was directed by Harold Ramis really intrigued me. Whilst there is a lot of dark humour coursing through the tale, it is first and foremost a noirish story.
Cusack is on good form as expected, he is a very likeable presence. His scenes with Oliver Platt are a lot of fun. Billy Bob has a lesser role and whilst his character becomes more interesting as the story progresses, the part that he plays doesn't carry a great deal of weight in the story.
The story itself is ok, starting in the aftermath of a successful robbery it just doesn't anywhere. The twists and turns of the story are easy to spot and whilst the introduction of Randy Quaid towards the end is fun, it doesn't really deliver on it's promises.
Having said that, this is a good watch mainly due to the charm of Cusack and Platt.
