Review of The Hustler (1961) by Brian B — 07 Jan 2008
The Hustler is a very good film about a pool shark played by Paul Newman. The best in the country, Newman goes town to town hustling local pool jockeys out of their earnings, but when it comes to the coup de gras Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason) he just can't seem to beat him.
After a 48 hour long session with Fats Fast Eddie leaves defeated and seeks console with Sarah Packard (Piper Laurie) a lush who he makes his companion in sorrow. Great performances all around, definately a worth while picture.
Overall 3.5/4 Stars Grade = B+.
