Review of The Hustler (1961) by Justin H — 13 Mar 2008
Watching this makes you realize why Paul Newman is a star. Confidence and charisma ooze out of him, and yet from the start you can tell something is broken about Fast Eddie. Jackie Gleason as Fats is a must-see, along with a slimy and cool George C.
Scott and the youngest Piper Laurie I've ever seen finish off a great cast. Poetic, allegorical, heartbreaking, melodramatic... what's not to love?
