The first 45 minutes were amazing! atmosphere you could touch. the rest was very good to and paul newman and george c. scott are excellent. the later films of rossen has a french feel to them, and this is no exception.
the only weak spot was the troubled girl who had to be sacrified to give newman's pool shark character.
