Review of The Hustler (1961) by Heather N — 21 Mar 2008
Another celebration of method-realism from the 1001 list. the hustler is a very sleek, very cool look at the nature of success and failure. Gordon's character is the embodiment of the great american catch cry that winning is everything, despite the cost.
there are fantastic performances around the board and the pool is simply amazing. the hustler has lost nothing of its strength over the years, and is as vibrant and cool now as when it was first released.
