Review of The Husband (2014) by Matt M — 13 Dec 2013
The Husband pains the uncomfortable picture of a husband and father of a baby whose wife is spending time in jail for having sex with a teenage boy. Now that she is about to get out of jail, poor henry finds himself deeply conflicted.
Making matters worse is the fact that he meets him casually one day and grows an unhealthy stalking obsession towards him. McDonald's film is uneasy yet its premise is very original. In fact, the awkwardness of the storyline isn't a problem.
It is rather disappointing, on the other hand, that the film really offers very little to follow up on the strangeness of the initial premise. In the end, The Husband is simply a dull film that has nothing much to offer apart from a credible performance by Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, who also wrote the script, in the leading role.
