What sequel has ever been "necessary"? It's a good story, based on a fairly dark fairy tale that clearly, once again, few critics bothered to read before holding forth and professing their ignorance.
No wonder folks don't listen to critics anymore. I enjoyed it immensely. It's visually gorgeous and tells a story of three powerful women. If you like fairy tales, you'll like it.
