Review of The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) by Cath O — 08 Jun 2016
Went to see this largely because of the cast - plus 3 women to 1 male star- a ratio usually reversed! In terms of design this was a stunning film. Costumes, sets, the framing of so many shots was all absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately the story was not terribly good, and Hemsworth and Chastain's accents were distractingly bad. However this film is no where near as bad as some reviews have said. Nick Frost, Rob Brydon and especially Sheridan Smith were an absolute a hoot as stroppy dwarves. Still, that rather lumpen plot was so flat, I ended up imagining how the film might have been improved if Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain switched roles! Blunt can kick ass and surely her Scottish accent wouldn't have been so bad. Chastain is so pale the ice queen look would have suited her perfectly!
A treat for the eyes but a shame they couldn't come up with a better plot.
