Review of The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) by Matt A — 17 Jun 2016
Not as terrible as most of the reviews are making it out to be. Its enjoyable but for most of the film you're waiting for something to happen. Its one of those films that after an hour you're thinking.
.. is this all that there is to it? First off its not a prequel as its been billed to the public, the first 30 minutes is set before Snow White and the Huntsman but after that it fast forwards 7 years after Ravenna (Charlize Theron) is killed.
But if you've seen the trailers you know she comes back. Nothing that does happen comes as a surprise as its all been revealed in the trailers. I was slightly disappointed by Freya (Emily Blunts Ice Queen) as she hardly uses her magic.
Chris Hemsworth has finally sorted his accent out but he's not much of a presence, neither is Jessica Chastain which is a disappointment. Their romance is never really explored apart from a few glances between them when they are younger.
The film belongs to Charlize Theron though, she plays evil really well and even though her character is very one dimensional she gives a decent performance. Everything happens in the final 30 minutes which makes up for the lacklustre middle section of the film.
Its ok, not that thrilling and not really worth buying. Maybe watch on a rainy sunday afternoon if there's nothing else on TV.
