Review of The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) by Dokyong T — 19 May 2016
- The prequel/sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman did not disappoint. It had its ups and downs but for the most part it was very entertaining. The plot took us back to the days of our heroes youth where we got a glimpse of the origin story of how they became such bad asses and it surely was a good one.
With the inclusion of the origin background of the "Ice Queen" the movie took a dark but enjoyable turn where action and adventure came into play. Sides were drawn and chosen as an unstoppable fleet of warriors were assembled so to wage an epic battle for good against evil.
The overall execution of the film was unique and it had a touch of brilliance in it. As captivating as the concept was, the delivery of every scene had impressive details that helped you get lost into the world on the BIG screen.
There were various aspects throughout the movie that grabbed a hold of your attention and refused to let go of it for the entire duration. With a main focus of "Love" thrown into the mix a double sided sword was revealed as two different sides fought for their own personal believe of what it stood for and how they will stand for it.
A fictional tug of war between right and wrong became the main focus of the film which ended up developing into an actual war that ultimately decided the future freedom of love and the ability to have and express it among the land.
There were massive special effects surrounded within the movie. Each scene shared a variety of computer generated images that added to the immense features of multiple martial arts spectacles. As the feature presentation played on, more intense action packed simulations occurred.
Not necessarily a edge of your seat rider but great none the less. So that the audience would not loose their interest, a couple of twists were included. The manner of their reveal were pretty epic which truly changed the entire dynamic of the plot within the film.
There were new characters tossed in with the old memorable ones and they connected on a level of professionalism which elevated the overall theatrical experience to a much higher ground. My expectations were very high with this film.
It had not to small but big enough shoes to fill and I personally believe that it fit in pretty darn well. For the complete 360 degree coverage storyline and the in your face graphical sound visual special effects with the inclusion of a very steady and interesting plot that included two jaw dropping twists, I give "The Huntsman: Winter's War", "3 Stars.
" It for sure is a "Must See", especially if you saw the original. There are slight differences between the two which pushes them apart in the best way possible. In my opinion, the second one is much better but not by a long shot.
Both were very entertaining in a unique sense within the fairytale world and you ultimately find yourself leaving the seat of the theater as you transport into the realm of make believe and pretend. That feeling only happens when a movie viewing turns into a movie experience which does not often happen.
The production value was high with this one and in more ways than one it reached it's goal, well at least on the entertainment category. Maybe there might just be another film in the making. The very last scene hints ever so lightly on that issue but not clear enough that a definite answer was given.
Only time will tell if this franchise is destined for growth but until then, whether or not this is the beginning or the end, good times were indeed had and two amazing films are present for us to enjoy, happily ever after.
YEAH!
