Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Deb S — 07 Dec 2009
Overall, this is a very enjoyable film and highly entertaining and credit must be given to director John McTiernan, most famous for his "Die Hard" movies. There is enough action, intrigue and suspense to satisfy anyone. Lots of testosterone in this movie and even the typical female window dressing was absent here lol.
Excellent Sean Connery plays the captain of the sub, Marco Ramius who seeks political asylum from the U.S.S.R. and plans to defect to the United States. Alec Baldwin is Jack Ryan, a feisty young CIA analyst who anticipates Sean Connery's every move. The strong supporting cast of Scott Glenn, Sam Neill, James Earl Jones, Courtney Vance & Fred Thompson is excellent and the story well-crafted, and keeps you on the edge of your seat with a new twist every few minutes.
