(1990) The Hunt For Red October.
DRAMA/ THRILLLER.
Out of all the adaptions from Tom Clancy novels, it has often been said that this was the most faithful adaption to a Tom Clancy novel involving Jack Ryan. And I'm going to agree with that statement since I haven't read this novel it was based on except that although the film is well made, I don't like the message this film is sending out to viewers that to be granted sanctuary one would have to betray one's country to become a US citizen or a Russian citizen, Chinese, Korean etc..In this case Connery delivering "The Red October" (which he had no permission to do so) in exchange for sanctionary to live in the democratic USA. This film can also be interpreted as a propoganda piece that United States is still the best and the most civilized place to live, was better to live than living in Russia at that particular time anyway. With a population of over 300 million citizens does the US need anymore promotion to other foreign countries to come to live in the US.
2.5 out of 4.
