Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Lorne N — 05 Jul 2010
When this film was shot the stars aligned. The story, actors, director, and political atmosphere clicked into place to create a product that has an air of mystique to it.
The original plot from Tom Clancy is outstanding. The Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery duo works amazingly well. Sean Connery (Scottish) show his acting talent by flawlessly playing a Russian submarine captain.
The director created Die Hard (enough said). The sense of action even when confined in a metal tube beneath the waves of the ocean is still present. The sense of being in a submarine in this movie has only been surpassed by one other film in history and that was the earth shattering Das Boot.
For an action/thriller movie this takes the cake. In my critical opinion if you are even moderately interested in anything nautical/military you will find this film amazing.
