Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Chad M — 02 Jul 2013
I rank this movie at the highest level possible 5/5 it earns a perfect score in my book. I can name several reasons why I love this movie, making it easy to give it a high score. I have watched this movie so many times it is hard to count, I will play it in the background while I do other things on the computer.
The casting is terrific, and the characters in the story are just as incredible. Another notable quality about this movie is how fantastic the story line is. It is so well written, I cannot pick it apart, nor do I care to try.
This movie finds America in a rare position we do not have a military, or technological advantage over our adversary. A rogue captain and his crew are trying to bring us their first strike weapon without getting killed and America is unaware of the captain's true intentions.
America is in the position were it has to rely on the captains reputation, and use an analyst speculation that the captain wants to defect. The benefit of gaining the captain's knowledge, and grabbing the red October warrant the risk, stretch to carry out the grab and hide mission.
If you do not love this movie, then you will probably not like my taste in movies. I admit I have a tendency to like a movie based on the lead actors (Sean Connery is awesome) but this movie is better than one actor no matter how great Sean Connery plays Ramius.
All-time great movie for me, and I still have the book to look forward to.
