Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Carter Y — 22 Apr 2010
The first and by far best film adaptation of a Tom Clancy novel, this fantastic, edge-of-your-seat Cold War techno-thriller takes you from the corridors of power in Washington to the conning towers of nuclear submarines.
Sean Connery stars as the rogue captain of a state-of-the-art Soviet sub who plots a course for the U.S. and Alec Baldwin plays a CIA analyst who believes the captain is trying to defect. A smart script, great direction, and an excellent cast all make 'The Hunt for Red October' a near perfect film and, without question, place it atop the list of the genre's very best.
