John McTiernan's great submarine movie, mixing great action with a battle of wits at very high stakes! Alec Baldwin is at his very best here, and is clearly the only Jack Ryan there ever should have been.
This is one of those magic movies, where all comes together perfectly: direction, script, cast and more. McTiernan made two great movies, this and "Die Hard." That was it, but they are both excellent films! Jan de Bont provides atmospheric cinematography and Basil Boledouris sets the mood with a great score.
