Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Joe J — 22 Jul 2015
The Hunt For Red October is a well cast and thrilling film. The acting is really great all around, and the writing is very good. The suspense created in the torpedo scenes was very effective. The story can be very interesting and is fairly well executed.
Scenes within the submarine give you the feeling like you're with these crews and thrust you right into the action. The movie takes its time to let the characters figure out ideas which makes it more realistic.
The Film does take quite some time getting going, and has some pacing issues. It gets overly technical in its dialogue at times, and does lack some emotion that could have been done really well to make us care more for the characters.
Nonetheless this is a great classic movie. The Hunt For Red October gets 4/5 stars (B+).
