Review of The Hunt (2020) by Umaumai — 07 Aug 2020
The plot, tone and underlining subtext was a little too on the nose for me to really enjoy this move during this time of heighten sensitivity. My score here ultimately reflects the movie holding a mirror up to the current vitriol that is going on around us and amps it up to a point I’m not all to sure is far off from happening.
They did a great job in all aspects of creating, capturing and completing this narrative. I’m shocked how they managed to keep a taught story moving and have every twist and turn stay fresh and interesting.
I think that the actors that they cast were perfect for keeping people off balance as to if we should take this seriously or not. My biggest praise is it doesn’t over stay it’s welcome and I kinda wish it had a longer run time.
I feel like some of the “hunt” sequences could have been longer. All in all I can’t say I had a “good time” watching this, but I would definitely recommend it to people beyond the horror/slasher genre for a view.
It had such a unique perspective that highlights the divide between “us” and “them,” the right and the left without sparing anyone’s feeling.
