Review of The Hunt (2012) by Nickthecritick — 28 Apr 2022
Lucas has a divorce behind him and a new life ahead that he would like to share with his son Marcus, the dog Funny and a new partner. Meek and reserved, Lucas works in a kindergarten, where he is esteemed by his colleagues and adored by children, especially by Klara, the daughter of his best friend. Klara, a child with a vivid imagination, is fascinated by Lucas to whom she gives a kiss and a heart of nails. Rejected with sweetness and determination, Lucas invites the little girl to give it to a companion. Klara doesn't like it and tells the principal that she has been subjected to the sexual attention of the teacher. Klara's lie will trigger the 'hunt' for the monster, devastatingly investing Lucas' life and affections. Desperate but determined to fight back, Lucas faces the community head-on as he waits to prove his innocence.
This film by Vinterberg is really great, based on a solid script this film leverages the power of the images offered to us by the director, the dialogues, the looks and the unspoken words.
