Maybe it would have helped if I had read the book series, but I still have trouble understanding why the third installment in the film franchise warranted the two part treatment. While the first film was understandably slow in pacing and action in order to establish tone and build to the climactic finale, this second and final installment felt more like a chore to get through rather than a satisfying conclusion.

In all honesty, I would have rather sat through a 3.5 hour epic than two 2.5 hour segments that appeared to try entirely too hard to justify existing.
