Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Frankie L — 19 Apr 2015
The movie itself is, to summarize in a word, aight. However, what makes it interesting for me is the similarities between Katniss and Jennifer Lawrence. Like Katniss, Jennifer Lawrence is the media sweetheart.
She didn't grow up in Hollywood. Her friendly, down-to-earth nature appeals to a wide audience, who shares the feeling that she could be their best friend if they met her in person. In the movie, after meeting Katniss, Madam President voices her doubts about Katniss being the face, the mockingjay of the revolution.
"She is destroyed by the game." This is also painfully true for Jennifer Lawrence and her rise to success in Hollywood, especially after her leaked nude photos incident. I wouldn't say she was destroyed but she definitely loses some of that easy going, spontaneous, childlike nature in her media appearances, which is kind of sad.
