Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Mark James A — 16 Jun 2015
As the penultimate chapter of a hugely successful YA book adaptation franchise about a beautiful fantasy of rebellion, "The Hunger Games: Mocking jay - Part 1" has an admirably well-crafted cinematic execution.
It follows however the Hollywood trend of having its last adaptation to spawn two movies, causing it to have lesser stories to tell. Its story has also gone through a tonally-different thematic nature, hindering its capability in building astonishing excitement and action unlike its predecessors.
Despite these rather underwhelming changes, it surprisingly managed to be consistently bracing and progressive, with good performances especially from its supporting casts whose characterizations range from cheerfully vibrant to subtle.
