Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Tatsuhito K — 11 Nov 2015
It may not be entertaining in ways that the last two films have been, and it is definitely short on visceral thrills. But the political subtexts are still there, and it is loaded with strong performances and great production values.
Kudos to director Francis Lawrence for, once again, crafting another solid installment in one of the smartest YA film franchises of the 2000s. Mockingjay Part 1 may be tedious for some, but for what it is, it works as an intelligent entertainment that leads us to the grand (and hopefully spectacular) finale.
