Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Mary M — 23 Nov 2015
This the first part of the final book is the darkest of this excellent series so far. Katniss is suffering from PTS from the aftereffects of both games and Peeta being taken by the Capitol. The rebellion is taking control of Panem and Katniss's face on vignettes supporting the uprising is adding fuel to it.
Meanwhile President Snow is using Peeta as a weapon of his own in hope to slow down or killing off the uprising. The film couldnt have been done better in setting up the finale. We get an even better Jennifer Lawrence performance and we get more of an insight into Plutarch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and get introduced to District 13's leader President Coin (Julianne Moore).
The film isnt washed in bright colours and beautiful backdrops that we saw during the first 2 films as alot of it takes place in the destroyed districts and underground but it shows the true realities of civil unrest and rebellion against the head of state.
Brilliant film now cant wait for part 2.
