Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Seriousreview — 30 Nov 2014
Whilst I understand the negativity that is generated by "placeholder" or Part 1 films, Mockingjay does a fantastic job of working as a stand-alone film, whilst leaving us on an intangible cliff-hanger.
Whilst it zips through much of the slightly tedious entry plot-line to the book, it does a great job of setting up the gist of the story, while focussing on the goose-bump moments. When Katniss sings the Hanging Tree, and when she visits the hospital in a warring district, she almost out does her earlier performances, however, the one area where there should have been seriously fantastic acting, but was lacking was when she delivrs her you burn with us line.
Yet despite these drawbacks, the film is still an incredible attempt at a split film (especially when compared to something like the first Harry Potter finale film - boring and made up of 9/10 of the book's plot, whilst the second was almost half made up of the final battle, so protracted, it could have been real-time).
Therefore, all in all I have given it a 10, yet not quite so good as Catching Fire, which was the best in the film series (in my opinion).
