Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014) by Murredly — 01 Dec 2014
This movie did exactly what it was meant to do. Set up a second movie that will be focused on the more combat heavy/action packed finale. That is not to say it was a good idea to split the story into two movies, but given the choice they did a pretty good job.
My only beef is that they did not do a good enough job showcasing the conflict between the characters. The third book was very sombre and full of distrust. The movie, though dark at points, didn't really capture all that you read, where previous movies they did.
For people complaining that it was a cash-grab or not really capturing the sense of the story, they are just complaining that the movie is split in two. They are right in the sense of it being a cash grab, but I am at least glad they made the movie well unlike the Harry Potter series which butchered the final two movies and final story.
