Review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) by Danny O — 04 Aug 2015
Catching Fire is a good sequel with a sharper narrative. The funny thing is, the first Hunger Games book was better than the second, but this Is the other way around. Catching Fire is a better made movie in many aspects.
Despite the familiarity of the plot, it's told in a way in which we feel like its a new story. The success of this movie is mostly due to both Lawrence's; director Francis Lawrence's smart direction and Jennifer Lawrence's convincing lead performance, she is really a hero we want to succeed.
The rest of the cast, old and new also does a remarkable job. The shaky cam and lower budget of the first film are non existent in this adventure, with well shot action sequences and a budget double the first, making this world feel more alive.
Some plot elements don't make sense, and the story certainly has it's conveniences. It is still a better and more epic movie than the original. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire gets 4/5 stars (B+).
