Review of The Hunger Games (2012) by Corey D — 11 May 2015
A near-flawless adaptation of the source material. Jennifer Lawrence puts her name on the map as she steps into the role of a teenager who steps into the wolf's den in place of her sister. Something to remember about Hunger Games is that these are essentially children who are torn away from their families and sent to die.
Some of these children train for it, others don't. Katniss did not train for the Hunger Games. And Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal makes you really believe this is someone who is fighting to stay alive.
Also, excellent performance from Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, someone who sees these kids die every year and has finally found someone who just might get out alive. The only hang up I have about this film is the camerawork during fight scenes, something that is thankfully corrected in the sequels directed by Francis Lawrence.
