Review of The Hunger Games (2012) by Dylan M — 26 Nov 2015

The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross gives us the cinematic version of the very successful book series in an intriguing way. I really enjoyed the first installment. It's almost identical to the book and closely follows the storyline which was very important to start of the franchise.

The Hunger Games balances a lot of elements quite well in this film. We have a lot of different relationships between characters that Gary Ross executes perfectly. Katniss and Peeta, Gale and Katniss, Snow and Katniss, Prim and Katniss.

It really goes on and on. The chemistry between Katniss and all the other characters is very believable and convincing throughout the film. Katniss is a very difficult character to portray. You have to be emotional, but at the same time still very strong.

I think Jennifer Lawrence does a very good job at playing this dynamic character. We get a great cast in this film too, Josh Hutinson, Liam Hemsworth, Don Sutherland, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, and Woody Harrelson(wow there are a lot of famous actors in this film).

The action is violent but entertaining. Although too much shaky cam was used that it's hard to get a good perception The games is where the movie starts to get intense and spark the movie. Although it can be a bit slow paced, it is fun and there are numerous suspenseful scenes throughout the games that I really enjoyed in the film.

Great effects, sets, and costumes make the movie even better to look at. We really get s good look at the Hunger Games universe. Overall The Hunger Games was a solid film to start the franchise. The directors and producers did everything they had to do to make this film likable for its diehard viewers and fans.
