Review of The Hunger (1983) by David W — 24 Jun 2008
Bowie aside, acting was campy. I mean, Jesussy-Jesusl! *ugh*.
Screenplay, horrible. Female leads, ugly; well, except for the cadavers for which ugliness is a perquisite of some sort.
Everything else is marvelous. Theme, story, atmosphere and playing heavy on states, music, cinematography, set.
I very much liked it up to the point where John serves his cycle. Sure it is an adaptation, but still I was hoping to have this particular arc deepened a little, perhaps a la Alter States.
I did not like how Sarah's arc turned out to be; I was expecting some sort of a revenge act from Miriam for the former's misconduct, but well..
A candy for senses, although you might want to have your brain under the seat for a while.
