Review of The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014) by B L — 31 Aug 2014
LOVED this movie! Charming, funny, touching... the photography looked as delicious as the food! Helen Mirren was stellar as always, and I thoroughly enjoyed the other cast members, especially her nemesis Papa.
The younger leads were completely charming, right down to Charlotte Le Bon's gamine looks. Manish Dayal's vulnerability was heart-breaking at times, and fully believable. The rest of the cast paled in comparison to these strong four, but only because there wasn't enough screen time to fully develop their characters.
I think the only way you could NOT like this movie is if you've lost your belief in the magic of love and good cooking, and you think your time is better spent watching a "realistic" movie that leaves you feel depressed rather than refreshed.
I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE! A good, solid, utterly charming movie that I will happily watch over and over, while the critics wallow in their despair.
