Review of The Human Stain (2003) by Christopher L — 07 Jan 2005
Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Ed Harris, and Gary Sinise.
Directed by Robert Benton.
Written by Nicholas Meyer.
Rated R (for language and sexuality/nudity).
Running time approximately 1 hour 46 minutes.
A wonderful, mature, beautifully acted drama, Robert Benton's adaptation of The Human Stain was a sadly underrated film from 2003 that should've earned Hopkins, Kidman, Harris and Sinise nods for their work. Kidman is especially good, making me wonder why, if she was ignored for a heartfelt performance in Cold Mountain (which I loved), she was not honored for her searing performance here. Oh well, what's done is done, and this is still a very good film. ***1/2 (out of ****) B+.
