Nicole Kidman simply is not trailer trash, she can play whatever she wants, but in this movie she is simply a poor little rich girl. Hopkins' character, let's be facet, is simply a jerk, a domineering, charming jerk but I love the reasons revealed for it, I love protagonists who are jerks, and I LOVE backstories.
Besides, the whole concept of this movie is so neatly summed up in the title, though I can't figure out what Ed Harris' human stain is, Vietnam?
