Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Elizabeth L — 13 Feb 2009
Ah the Coen Brothers. Has there been a more consistently excellent, original and idiosyncratic creative pairing in the history of cinema? Probably not, and that's we love them. There so hard to pin down.
There's no genre they won't try, no style they won't emulate, no dusty remnant of cinematic past they won't dust off and resurrect. The Hudsucker Proxy ranks just behind The Big Lebowski in my list of favourite Coen Brothers films, and it is awesome in every way.
Fantastic dialogue, superb acting (Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, the late, great Paul Newman), incredible energetic film-making. Imagination oozes from every frame, anarchic creativity is literally leaking out of the dvd player as I watch this.
It has a great 50's screwball energy, fast paced and snappy and exciting. I could babble on about this film for ever and still get nowhere near describing it, so I will quit while i'm ahead. The Hudsucker Proxy is awesome, so watch it please.
"You know, for kids!".
