Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Stephen L — 17 Dec 2009
This isn't one of the Coen Brothers most well-known movies and that's a shame. It's a great homage to a fictionalized 1950s seen in a lot of classic Hollywood movies. It's also a great critique of consumer capitalism. Much like in Gilliam's "Brazil!" the sets are almost characters in and of themselves. This aspect and the magical realism are the movie's strongest points. However, Paul Newman is perfect as the devilish, scheming board member and Tim Robbins is perfect as the fish-out-of-water wide-eyed dreamer.
"You know, for kids!".
