Review of The Howling (1981) by Per S — 26 Sep 2007
After news reporters close encounter with a serial killer she is sent with her husband to a retreat to come to terms with her encounter, but not everything is not quite what it seems. For what is supposed to be a straight horror film the werewolves do come across as slightly comedic as they know how to operate a tape recorder, but not a door handle.
Oh and not forgetting the werewolf that gently takes a medical file away from someone before attacking them. There are a couple of nice tension building moments, but are sometimes let down by the silliness of the werewolf attacks.
Speaking of which the werewolves (two-legged versions) do look ok, but the transformation sequences are a bit of a let down as it's down in the infamous cut away and then back again. Still the finished version looks better than the transformation leads you to believe.
Well apart from a certain werewolf at the end which is just made to look all cute and cuddly awwww!
