Review of The Howling (1981) by Christopher M — 24 Feb 2008
Decent werewolf chiller features plenty of black humor and horror-film references by director Joe Dante. Somewhat dated by the references to late-seventies "pop-psychology" being used to tame the beast within, but the transformation scenes and full-werewolf costumes by special effects genius Rob Bottin are a wonder to behold.
The cast is also a fun mix and I'm happy Dante gave genre vet John Carradine a fine swan song after appearing in so much exploitation dreck. Tilt: up.
