One of the best werewolf movies, The Howling is a good combination of scares, in-jokes, and laughs (most of which are intentional). The movie has great (pre-computer) special effects that still look more realistic than a lot of the computer effects.
There are tons of references to wolves, werewolf films, and directors of werewolf films that are fun to spot throughout.
